Spanish Garnacha has demonstrated remarkable quality.
A group of experts in this variety evaluated a total of 69 wines, awarding the designation of “Excellent” to nine of them.
More than half of the samples achieved 90 points or more.
The tasting was conducted by a panel of judges, who highlighted 9 wines as Exceptional and another 28 as Highly Recommended.
Evaluation Results
A total of 74 wines were registered.
The categorization was as follows:
- Exceptional: 0
- Excellent: 9
- Highly Recommended: 28
- Recommended: 32
Producers and representatives from the UK were invited to participate by presenting still red wines from recent vintages, provided that Garnacha constituted at least 85% of the blend.
These wines had to come from any protected designation of origin or geographical indication in Spain, with a minimum market price of €8 or its equivalent in export markets.
Expectations for the Tasting
Entering a tasting can be an intimately nerve-wracking experience.
Often, concerns about quality and high expectations weigh heavily on participants’ minds.
This was the atmosphere at our event, where a panel of Garnacha enthusiasts gathered.
Expectations were extremely high, and the extensive variety of Garnacha produced in Spain impressed everyone.
