Alliance Wine has unveiled its first-ever Burgundy en primeur initiative, a move that marks a new chapter following the integration of the recently acquired H2Vin portfolio.
Launch of the Initiative
Today’s launch kicks off this collaborative campaign, representing the first major event since Alliance took over H2Vin late last year.
This initiative features a remarkable range of nearly 350 wines from over 30 renowned Burgundy producers, showcasing the combined expertise and diverse offerings of both organizations.
Ned Llewellyn, the sales director at Alliance Wine, expressed his enthusiasm about presenting a comprehensive Burgundy en primeur campaign for the first time.
The acquisition of H2Vin has not only provided fresh insights but also created valuable connections and opportunities for collaboration, enriching the company’s capabilities.
Focus on the 2023 Vintage
This year’s campaign shines a spotlight on the 2023 vintage, which Honorez believes perfectly illustrates the craftsmanship and adaptability of Burgundy’s winemakers.
Wilkin echoed this sentiment, sharing excitement about the campaign’s potential to reach a wider audience and introduce more wine lovers to the exceptional wines from 2023.
The initiative kicks off this week with a special tasting on Friday, January 17, followed by a concluding event the next week.
The 2023 vintage has impressed the team; many of the red wines boast vibrant fruit flavors, approachable soft tannins, and a delightful concentration that makes them enjoyable even in their youth.
While the whites faced some challenges early on, they now exhibit admirable freshness and balance, a credit to the winemakers’ hard work.
Honorez has noted the high quality of the 2023 vintage, which is priced similarly to the 2022 wines.
This suggests it could offer great value and capture the interest of many buyers.
He highlighted that, despite the varied weather this year—characterized by cool, wet conditions and warmer spells before harvest—frost had little impact, allowing the unique qualities of the wines to shine through.
Comparative Initiatives in the Wine Market
In another corner of the wine market, the Wine Society is also gearing up for an expanded en primeur campaign, this time focusing on Barolo.
The online retailer announced a 50% increase in offerings for its upcoming 2021 vintage Barolo en primeur, set to launch on January 14.
This campaign will feature 61 wines from 27 different producers, showcasing the exceptional quality and potential of the 2021 vintage.
Victoria Mason MW, a buyer for the Society, has kept the pricing in line with the previous 2020 vintages, making this an enticing opportunity for both seasoned Barolo enthusiasts and newcomers eager to start their fine wine collections.
