Cape Mentelle, a renowned winery located in Margaret River, has exciting news for wine lovers in the UK: the debut of its new Marri range, thanks to its partnership with importer Bancroft Wines.
This fresh collection features four exceptional wines that capture the essence of Western Australia: Semillon Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Shiraz, with prices ranging from £16.99 to £17.50.
About Cape Mentelle
Established in 1970, Cape Mentelle is the third-oldest winery in the thriving Margaret River region.
The Marri range was created with the intent to provide premium wines while remaining accessible to a broader audience.
The name “Marri” honors the native eucalyptus tree, reflecting the winery’s deep-rooted connection to its environment and dedication to the area’s French-style winemaking tradition.
The Winemaking Process
At the helm of the Marri range’s production are David Moulton, the chief winemaker and viticulturalist, along with senior winemaker Coralie Lewis.
They employ a meticulous approach to viticulture, ensuring that the wines not only meet their high standards but also authentically represent the region.
Sustainable Practices
The Marri tree’s imagery has adorned Cape Mentelle’s bottle designs since 1976, symbolizing the winery’s commitment to the rich biodiversity in the region.
In line with their environmental dedication, Cape Mentelle adopts cover cropping methods, enhancing soil vitality and attracting helpful insects that assist with pest control.
Moulton pointed out a common challenge arising from local wildlife, particularly silvereye birds, which can jeopardize grape production.
To mitigate this risk, protective netting is deployed across many sections of the winery’s expansive 150 hectares of land.
Alongside the new Marri range, Bancroft Wines also brings in Cape Mentelle’s 16 Hectares and Heritage ranges, both of which were highlighted during the January tasting event.
The 16 Hectares collection pays homage to the original 16 hectares of vines planted at the winery, now recognized as the Wallcliffe vineyard, with all wines in this collection retailing at £24.95.
Meanwhile, the Heritage range is crafted from specifically chosen barrels, including offerings like Heritage Chardonnay and Heritage Cabernet Sauvignon, priced at the premium point of £79.95 through Bancroft.
With these exciting offerings, Cape Mentelle continues to showcase the distinctiveness of Margaret River, inviting wine enthusiasts to experience the vibrant terroir of this remarkable region.
