Heritage and Vineyard Practices
Founded in 1948 by the state, Grand Tokaj has established itself as a hallmark of the Tokaj region.
Today, it operates under the ownership of Tokaj-Hegyalja University.
With Károly Áts at the helm as winemaker, Grand Tokaj offers an array of wines that includes both sought-after dry varieties and the signature sweet wines that made the region famous.
The estate boasts 67 hectares of exceptional vineyard land, recognized as premier terroir since 1730, and partners with local growers to cultivate an additional 600 hectares in the area.
Looking Ahead
Rebecca Long, C&C Group’s wine buyer for Eastern and Central Europe, shared her enthusiasm for Grand Tokaj’s inclusion in their portfolio, noting its long and rich heritage as one of the oldest wineries in the renowned Tokaj region.
She expressed excitement about the winery’s diverse selection, which features outstanding dry wines and unique single-vineyard Furmint expressions.
After visiting the estate recently, Long was impressed by the winery’s meticulous approach to both vineyard management and winemaking.
She also highlighted their efforts to connect with the public through a welcoming visitor center.
Nicolas Jelasity, the export manager at Grand Tokaj, commented on the partnership with C&C Group, describing it as an optimal choice for increasing awareness of their wines across the UK and Ireland.
He praised C&C’s robust distribution network and the proficiency of its team, both of which are crucial to maximizing the potential of their varied offerings designed for different market segments.
Jelasity also highlighted the winery’s goal of building a sustainable, long-lasting partnership that honors the rich legacy of Tokaj wines while also resonating with modern consumers.
In this way, they hope to breathe new life into the cherished traditions of Tokaj for generations to come.
