Nina Throsby Selected as Judge
Nina Throsby has been selected as a judge for the upcoming 2025 Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA), adding a vibrant new voice to the judging panel.
Career and Achievements
Currently serving as the group sommelier for Kailis Hospitality Group, Nina curates wine selections for two popular venues: The Shorehouse and Gibney.
She boasts a wealth of experience managing diverse wine lists, backed by her formal education, which has convinced her that remarkable wines are produced around the globe.
Nina is keen on enhancing her expertise and is actively pursuing studies with the Court of Master Sommeliers.
After successfully completing the Introductory and Certified levels, she is now gearing up for the Advanced exam.
Her career is studded with impressive accolades, including being named the 2023 WAGFG Sommelier of the Year.
Under her guidance, Gibney earned the recognition for the Best New Wine List in the Country for 2024.
For three years running, she has also received praise for having the Best Wine List in Western Australia, along with the Best Sparkling List in Australia in 2022.
Passion for Wine and Education
As a key member of the team that opened Gibney earlier this year, Nina has put together a remarkable wine collection featuring selections from both renowned Australian and international producers.
Her enthusiasm for wine judging shines through her participation in numerous competitions held throughout Australia.
In addition to her wine knowledge, Nina holds a trio of degrees: Anthropology, Human Biology, and a Master of Forensic Science from the University of Western Australia.
